1. The first of its kind was "Archie", created by Alan Emtage in 1990 . Then came "Veronica" and " Jughead". A new generation started with the beginning of Wandex. Among the other early products were " Excite " and " Northern Light " . What am I talking about? ( Those who get this... Please tell me which example gave the answer away.:-)...)

Archie/Veronica were early file archiving/indexing engines. So i make the guess of search engines.
btw, VERONICA = very easy rodent oriented netwide index of computerised archives.
